If It Only Works When You're In the Room, It's Not a System
A true leadership system produces results whether leadership is present or not. If performance drops when you step away, the system isn't built yet.
When you're in the room, things happen. When you leave, they don't. Your presence is the system.
That's not a system. That's dependence.
The Presence Problem
If performance depends on your presence, you have a leadership problem masquerading as a system. A real system works independent of any individual. It produces results reliably, whether you're there or not.
What Real Looks Like
A real system has clear expectations. Defined decision rights. Visible progress. Built-in accountability. People know what to do and why. The system runs because it's embedded into how work gets done—not because someone is watching.
Test it: Take a vacation. If things fall apart without you, the system isn't built. If things run smoothly, the system is real.
